Dublin Tab update

Update from Dublin

Hi everyone,

I'd like to thank you all for your kind words on the various mailing lists. It was an absolute pleasure to have you all here, and we had a great time working on Dublin Worlds.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the tabs are now available on www.pgcareerswudc.com, and separate ESL tabs will be made available in the coming days.

Regards,

John Harvey,
Deputy Convenor,
P&G Careers WUDC,

News segment on Worlds

Want to get a flavour of the final. Check out http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0103/9news.html
It is the second last item on the list.

WUDC Thanks

Just a quick thank you to Ciaran and all involved in running Worlds in UCD for a fantastic tournament. Well done guys. UBC have a hard act to follow next year but knowing Teddy and Kevin they will be more than able to keep up the high standard.

Also thanks to Derek Lande and Rachel Chan for sending me updates when I was not in Dublin. Without them I would not have been able to post up to date information. Also thanks to my brother Declan for posting the key final results as they were announced. The winners were on the website within a minute of being officially announced thanks to him.

Scanned UCD Team Tab

UPDATE: I have now updated these files as per the tab released by Dublin rather than my scanned copy.

I have scanned and uploaded the team tab to http://www.debating.net/flynn/ucd06team.htm

The file is 1.91 mb so it may take some time to download. I have also uploaded the tab as an smaller excel file
http://www.debating.net/flynn/ucdtab.xls which may be faster to download but you will need excel.

Note: IF you find an error then e-mail me or post a comment here. DO NOT announce to the world that the tab is wrong. Most likely my scanner is wrong. The info was scanned from the sheets handed out at UCD last night. I have checked the totals etc and corrected any obvious errors but it is possible I have missed something. Contact me and I will check the hard copy.

I tried to scan the speaker tab but it came out with far more errors than the scanned team tab. I expect UCD will post the official one shortly anyway.

Final day timetable

So people know what to expect here is the timetable for key events tomorrow (all in Irish time)

11am-1pm Semi Finals
Expect an announcement on the finalists sometime between 1 and 2pm Irish time. I will be on my way to Dublin so I will post a brief update from my phone.

5pm- 7pm Final
Again I will post the results from my phone once announced. ALL results (Main, ESL, Masters, Public Speaking, Speaker etc) will be announced at the same time.

8pm Championship dinner.
I am not certain but it is possible (and strongly rumoured) that the results won't be announced until sometime during the dinner. The time is tight between the final and the dinner and people have to get from UCD to the Burlington so it is entirely possible they don't plan to announce things until then
.

Finally in case I forget thanks to Derek Lande and Rachel Chan. My two "moles" inside the championships. Without them I wouldn't have had any info to post. Thanks guys.

First Japanese ESL Break at Worlds

Tim Sonnreich has posted a comment to say that Tokyo A have broken in the ESL Competition. This is the first time a Japanese team have made the break in any competition at Worlds.

2 Missing teams

I'm still waiting for confirmation of the two remaining teams in the break. I have one team name but it was not certain and don't want to post in case it is wrong. All I know for sure about the remaining 2 spots is that neither is an Irish team as Cork A & B are the only two Irish teams to break.

It is unlikely that I will have final confirmation until the morning.

Yale Top Tab, Hart House Break 4 teams

Yale A have topped the tab at Worlds 2006.

Hart House Toronto broke four Teams, Followed by Yale and Sydney with 3 each.

I don't have any word on Masters, Public Speaking ESl or Judge break.

So far by Country:
England 9 Teams
Canada 7 Teams
Australia 6 Teams
United States 5 Teams
Ireland 2 teams
Philippines 2 Teams
Scotland 1 Team
South Aftica 1 Team

18 Points was the cut off. Don't yet have confirmation on the points of each team.

Thanks to Derek Lande for phoning me with the details.
