Call for interested hosts of AUDC 2010

Hi All,
The 2009 AUDC starts today in East West University Bangladesh. They have had a tough time recently but hopefully everything is now back on track for a successful tournament.

College of Saint Benilde (CSB) had intended to bid to host the tournament in 2010 but have now pulled out (see below). The AUDC executive committee (exco) are now asking for prospective bidders for 2010. It may be short notice but hopefully someone will be able to put together a bid for their union meeting.

From AUDC mailing list

Dear Friends,
CSB has recently informed the exco that they will be withdrawing their bid for 2010. They will be coming out with their own statement soon, so we would rather not pre-empt it. The exco, however, would like to request interested bidders to please prepare your presentations for the upcoming Union Session. Thank you.

Sincerely

The AUDC Exco

Dear friends,
CSB would like to announce that it is withdrawing its bid for 2010 to heed the advice of our school administration and to give way to other prospective bidders.
We wish good luck to prospective bidders and the participants in this year's AUDC.

Thank you.
ciao,
Wilbert

Auckland Australs 2010 DCA Applications still open

A reminder that applications are still being accepted for Deputy Chief Adjudicators (DCAs) for the Auckland Australs 2010 bid.

Applications will be open until midnight on Sunday May 17 (note two day extension to original dates).

If you are interested in becoming a DCA, please download and complete an application form (from the yahoo group files section), or alternatively email the prospective CA, Christopher Bishop, at cjsbishop@gmail.com and he will send you one. If there are any questions about the form, please get in touch with Chris.

On Monday 18 May, a list of the applicants will be circulated via the Australs, All-Asians and AUDC mailing lists for feedback.

At this point people should feel free to email the CA with their feedback on any or all of the candidates. All communication will be treated in the strictest confidence, and all feedback provided by the Austral-Asian community will be considered.

DCAs for the Auckland bid will be announced in advance of Monash Australs, most likely in the week leading into the tournament.

Please note that we have no fixed views on how many DCAs should be appointed, although consistent with previous years we think 2-3 is about the right number.

Kind regards,

Glenn Riddell
Bid Convener

International Mace Results

"The Mace" is the regional championships of the UK and Ireland.  The four individual nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) all hold national mace competitions.  The four winners then go through to the International Mace Final.  Prior to 2002 there was no Welsh Mace and the fourth place in the international mace final was decided by a run off (Repechage) between the runners up in the three national maces (plus the third team from one nation which was rotated between the nations).  The winners of the International mace are known back to 1954.  The winners of the national maces prior to around 1992 or 1993 is not known as the group of us who gathered the date some years back could not recall back that far.  We can't use the winners of the international mace as a guide to the winners of the national mace as they could have come through the repechage.

The competition is run by the English Speaking Union.
